Each leg is separate and you'll "step into" the second leg to form a criss crossing "O" at the behind and exposed front. We were a little confused when we tried them, but the end result was worth it -- we always like to see something new and different. We find these run small and are not recommended for tall gals or ladies with long legs. According to the manufacturer's package, Average fits 5'-5'10" tall and 100-175 lbs but we don't agree and would not recommend for anyone over 5-8" tall or 140 lbs for best fit.
